About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Chantal Kreviazuk's Under These Rocks and Stones is an impressive debut that suggests she could become a singer-songwriter of some power. Although portions of the album sound as if her producers (or label) were pushing her toward Alanis territory, Kreviazuk is at her best when the music is stripped back and simple. Occasionally, the whole thing is a little too precious for its own good, but the moments that work illustrate that Kreviazuk is a promising songwriter and musician. Thom Owens, All Music Guide

November 06, 2007: chantal kreviazuk is an incredible artist. this is the first album i bought, after hearing "surrounded" on dawson's creek and later "feels like home" on the show's first soundtrack. this is a promising debut album, with lots of alternative flare and some really good songs, including the two previously mentioned ones, and others like "wayne" and "disagree." but all in all it was a bit of a disappointment, none of the songs live up to the genius of "surrounded" and it sounds a lot like she's trying to be alanis morissette and failing, especially on songs like "god made me." it could have used some smoother production as well. however, it's still an enjoyable album, but you will definitely hear better songs on the follow-up "colour moving and still" and the commercial hit "what if it all means something."

March 28, 2002: Chantal is amazing, her songs provoke a sense of spirituallity and love that is unobtainable every where else (ok enough of the hippy talk.) If you like those strong women types with both lyrically and rhythmically intense driven songs buy it. You are even blessed with the simple and less full blown songs like Grace. The obvious standout songs are Wayne, Surrounded and Hands. All tracks of course are fit for individual release.
