The Ultimate Collection, but only of their work in the 60'sby JohnQ

August 13, 2009: This is a great, exciting, and fun hits collection of their work in the sixties (with a couple of songs from the 70's, and a couple from the 80's, added into the mix). But to have a collection of their whole career I strongly suggest adding "The Kinks Greatest Hits 1970-1986" (from Velvel/Koch records) to this package. This 2 CD "Ultimate Collection" cuts out all the filler and proves that the Kinks are just too much fun to pass up.

I Also Recommend: The Kinks Greatest 1970-1986.

December 16, 2007: The Kinks were a huge part of the British Invasion, mostly because of the incredible songwriting ability of Ray Davies. They have kept their music and sence of humor together for more than 35 years, putting out some of the most infectious and memorable pop songs of all time. Like Herman's Hermits and The Dave Clark Five, they had to live in the shadow of the Beatles and The Rolling Stones, but their music has always shined through and they are still playing and having fun. Celluloid Heroes is one of the greatest songs ever written, and Father Christmas is probably the best Christmas song of all time. This is a good sample of their best songs which still sound just as good today as they did in the 70's. Listen to The Pretenders version of Stop Your Sobbing and then listen to the original. In my book, The Bachelors Bible I list them as one of the best Brit-pop bands of all time.
