This, of course, includes her one Top Ten hit "Piano in the Dark," but it also contains a number of songs that made the R&B charts or radio, providing an excellent summary of her career. November 18, 2001: Brenda Russell is without a doubt one of my favorite singer/songwriters. Her work is truly wonderful and its a shame that more people dont know who this woman is. Although ''Piano..'' is her most famous song, there are many more songs that are even more remarkable. Ms. Russell is one of those rare artists who actually has a distinct sound that is uniquely her own. Chances are if you enjoy any one of her albums, youre bound to enjoy all of them because she is so amazingly consistent. ''The Ultimate Collection'' is the perfect CD to introduce to those who may never have had the privilege of being exposed to her works, and best of all it encompasses the entire scope of her career. Many of the songs on this CD are only available on vinyl which I think is a travesty, but at least this compilation chooses the best among hard to find material. Overall a fantastic album if youre in the mood to be romantic or if you just want to relax and be mellow.
