While the title of The Ultimate Collection may be overstating the matters somewhat, this 17-track compilation does come very close to fulfilling the title's promise. This compilation concentrates on Angela Winbush's late-'80s recordings for Mercury, dipping into the early '80s and early '90s on occasion, so some may complain that it's too focused on a particular era, yet that helps the collection, since that's when Winbush was at her best. Relying on single versions, radio mixes, and edits (though there are several album versions here, as well), this gives a good portrait of what Winbush was all about -- smooth urban soul, graced with exceptional vocals. Her material may not always be first-rate, but her performances are usually impassioned, and this collection makes an excellent case for her talents. Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide

October 11, 2002: This is an extremely attractive compilation package of Angela Winbush's hits. For those who wonder about "Rene & Angela" hits pre-"Street Called Desire," you're not missing anything. By now, most of us are familiar with "My First Love (long as I live)." That's was thier only hit during the disappointing Capitol years. It's also best to forget about Rene Moore. His 1987 solo effort came and went for Polydor. Angela's "Sharp" struck gold with "Angel," the album's biggest hit and charttopper. Having owned Angela's solo albums for years, this compilation hurt my feelings because it doesn't include "Run to Me," the remix version, which was issued as the 7-inch single and 12 inch, which fully incorporates the album version. However, the forgettable "C'est Toi" remix is included, when the album version would have been better for this set. Each of Winbush's solo set's includes duets with husband, Ron Isley. (Winbush's slick production work for the Isley's since 1988's "Smooth Sailin'" album till present day is the PRIMARY reason the Isley Brothers have had such a magnificent set of albums the past ten years.) I highly recommend this set for music lovers wanting a sample of Angela Winbush. However, I warn you: YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED. You'll want more; so, I recommend that you buy the solo cd's: "Sharp," "The Real Thing," and "Angela Winbush." If you want to hear her most recognized talent, Production, pick up Stephanie Mills' "Home" Cd. To summarize the review of Winbush's Ultimate Collection...It's a Winner!!!!"

September 12, 2001: I began to wonder had the executives forgotten about Diva Winbush. In the past a collection like this meant that the artist was nolonger at her best and this was the only way to give her fans a quick fix. Although, I believe the ladder rule apply in this case. It's been over seven years since we last heard Angela on her own full length cd. However, she's been busy as ever taking her hubby, Ronald Isley of the legendary Isley Brothers to the top of the charts. This collection is only a teaser to the capability of Angela Winbush. Just take a listen to the hits contain in this collection. She has made her mark on the R&B top twenty and is still around today. What ever the reason she hasn't brought her voice back to us. You can best believe it's not because she doesn't have the talent. With the right manager, record company, and her own personal hunger to be considered apart of the best like: Carey, Houston and Deion, Angela could blow the socks off of the music industry. If you don't believe me, then I suggest you ask People Weekly. Back in 1994, they said she could out sing Houston and Carey no sweat. Just like her natural beauty, Winbush, knows what it takes in the recording studio. Stephanie Mills even said of her, ''She can be tough in the nicest way.'' I think that that sums up the collection. It's tough in the nicest way. I recommend that you not only take a listen to this collection, but go out and by all her recording. Sharp, The Real Thing, and Angela Wnbush. All her songs should be considered greatest hits.
