About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

This two-disc set from Collectables features a pair of out of print Herbie Mann LPs: Turtle Bay and Discotheque, both originally issued on Atlantic in 1973 and 1975, respectively. Highlights among the 20 tracks include "Rainy Night in Georgia," "I Won't Last a Day Without You," and "Pick Up the Pieces," which are pleasant, but not essential. Les Campbell, All Music Guide

September 13, 2009: I grew up listening to Herbie Mann. Not only did I listen to Mann, I listened to other jazz greats such as Herb Alpert, John Coltrane, Tito Puente. And of course there were the albums of contemporary artists like the Beatles. But I must admit there will always be a special place in my heart for for Herbie Mann. His was the music that got played over and over. It was the music that played in the background during dinner and the music turned up loud until that was all you heard. It is the music of my mother, myself and my children.
