About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Eric Benet's debut album True to Myself elevates the singer to the front ranks of late '90s retro-soul vocalists, yet the album suffers from inconsistent material. which prevents it from being a thoroughly impressive debut. As it stands, True to Myself is merely an appealing, promising collection of soul that usually straddles the line between classic and urban soul quite skillfully. Leo Stanley, All Music Guide

July 09, 2000: Beautiful soul music, which makes me feel proud of my blackness. His crooning is so sweetly sensual, and I melt into the spirituality of whatever he sings. This music is poetry that fills me with a warmth which reconnects me to my femininity and humanity. This is music which can make you feel whole, if you've been feeling broken; and if you're already feeling whole, it makes you feel empowered because it reminds you that you're special. This is music which wraps itself around your soul and soothes, stimulates and seduces.
