One of the most important fuctions of folk music is to provide us with a place to stand apart from the bolted-to-the-rock stronghold we think is ''The Truth''. In True to Life, the Chenille Sisters take us on a roller coaster ride that covers a vast expanse of emotions from the longings of a jilted lover in ''Howlin' at the Moon'', to laughing at our fads and egos in ''Big Hair''. The music included in True to Life asks us to stand back from what we think is so, and take a look at life from two perspectives: one that reminds us, ''Hey, lighten up...God's got a sense of humor!'' (Pizza Deliverance), and another that literally screams, ''Hey, pay attention, this is nasty stuff!'' (I Lie in the Dark). For anyone who has lived their life through another, the blusie lyrics of ''Co-dependent With You'' will nail you to the wall of the prison you exist in, and set you free. In addition to all this, the music is just pure, toe-tappin' fun!
