About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Superstar DJ Paul Oakenfold's first overground album of remixes and recycled beats is a highly thematic sampler platter featuring 11 underground dance/electronica artists made even more cult-worthy by Oakenfold's occasionally dashing face-lifts. But Tranceport is no mere mixtape of the Oakenfold 1998 experience. Taking tracks by such artists as the Dream Traveller, Gus Gus, and Agnelli + Nelson, Oakenfold slips new tricks and grooves into the work, in essence creating brand-new multi-BPM beasts in the process. The atmospheric techno offshoot trance often can be a smothering listen, drifting miles above the ozone with little or no purpose (or end in sight); here, Oakenfold makes it inviting -- a beautifully textured music that reveals a little something more about itself with each listen. A major achievement of the genre. Michael Gallucci, All Music Guide

September 02, 2002: I'm a big fan of trance and other forms of techno, and usually i would prefer artists wbo tend to be a bit less mainstream than Paul Oakenfold. This album, however, blew me away as a completely listenable piece of artwork surpassing that of even the great DJ Tiesto.

August 02, 2002: this is the finest trance disc i have ever listed to. i am not one for happy house and the ny underground teeny-bopper garbage that many artists seem to be producing, so when i first picked this album up about a year ago, i was pleasantly surprised. every song is good, at the very least. it is a tripped out hardcore trance style that still gives me chills whenever i listen to it. paul oakenfold is an institution, as many loyal fans know. he has multiple global underground discs, and many fantastic concoctions that any raver, clubber or enthusiast can enjoy. this disc, however, is above and beyond the call of good trance. it is a true portal to audio ecstasy, and cannot be rivaled by any other artist of the genre i have heard. do yourself a favor and buy it now.
