Returning to the recording studio one year after their first momentous meeting, pianist Bill Evans and singer Tony Bennett delivered another tour de force. Fans of the Tony Bennett and Bill Evans Album will also delight in Together Again, which similarly finds the two master stylists performing standards and favorite songs. Displaying the sublime balance that always marked their get-togethers, Bennett and Evans offer splendid renditions of such durable fare as “Who Can I Turn To?,” “You’re Nearer,” “You Must Believe in Spring,” and “Make Somebody Happy.” The two collaborators are in polished form, each keeping the other in mind at all times, their sensitivity bringing a special glow to each tune. Evans also exhibits his inimitable abilities as a solo pianist on “The Bad and the Beautiful.” Evans and Bennett were a rare team; a superb recording such as this makes us mourn the loss of the pianist all over again.
