Even after releasing more than an album each year since 1997, Trick Daddy kept up the quality control with 2002's Thug Holiday. The production's a bit amateurish and a bit skeletal in places, but the South's most consistent rapper still has a lot to offer, especially when he gets together with Cee-Lo from Goodie Mob and Big Boi from OutKast on "In da Wind." The title track is a bit too dramatic for such a usually enjoyable hip-hop name, but great party tracks like "Play No Games" and "All I Need" more than make up for a few half-baked message tracks. January 24, 2003: This album is off the chain. That's the only thing I can really say. I was astonished. I'm sure everyone has heard 'Thug Holiday'. That along with 'Ain't no Santa', 'God's been Good' and 'Rain it Pours' are the realist songs I've ever heard. I like it when a person isn't afraid to hold back on his lyrics no matter how political they are. I also love the way he put religion on his CD. He and Pastor Troy are good for that. I think that this CD is a go getter. If this CD isn't in your case, you are missing a lot.

September 11, 2002: When Trick first came out, I wrote him off without ever listening because I thought he'd have a Luke sound to his music. And I was sick of "booty" music because it all sounded the same. Well I'll tell all you sleepers a thing or two. For those of you who bought "The Blueprint" as a first time Jay-Z listener, this album will have the same effect on you that "The Blueprint" had on me. Before I knew it, I had all 6 Jay-Z albums. Now I'm gunnin' for all of Trick Daddy. From what I heard on "Thug Holiday," the boy is cold. My personal favorite is "Ain't No Santa." You gotta love it when a rapper gets political. That's how you know a rapper is real. To hell with sales, the boy got some knowledge to tell. A keeper!!
