About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Gentle Giant's third album (and their first self-produced effort, Tony Visconti having run the sessions on the two previous records) was another advance, this time in the direction of a harder rock sound -- everything sounds turned up here, especially the guitars, the bass, and the electronic keyboards. Three Friends hardly sacrificed any of the group's progressive intentions, however, and there are some softer moments here, such as the playful, sprightly first half of "Schooldays"; the harmonies and arrangements still had a distinctly medieval feel, and the melodies, though a little harder to discern here (which made them even more appealing when they did become obvious), were quite engaging. This is supposed to be a concept album, about the relationship between three friends across a lifetime, and the original notes and lyrics have been reprinted, but none of that is necessary in order to enjoy the songs here. Gentle Giant At Their Bestby Anonymous

November 21, 2005: If you are a prog-rock fan who likes bands such as Yes and King Crimson this is the album for you. This is Gentle Giant’s 3rd album, and their best. Though it only has 6 songs, each one is unique and just plain amazing. The album is a concept album about three friends who went to school together, and drifted apart by skill, chance, and fate. The first song "Prologue" is the beginning of the 3 boy's lives, "Schooldays" is about their childhood (school), "Working All Day" is one of the kids lives as a road digger or a blue-collar worker, "Peel The Paint" is about one of the kids growing up to be a painter, "Mister Class And Quality?" is about a successful, rich office worker who has everything in life, and "Three Friends" is the end in life. Here are my ratings of the songs 1. Prologue:***** This song is the best on the album. It was written by the bass player, Ray Shulman. 2. Schooldays:**** Very beautifully sad song that was written by Kerry Minnear, the keyboard player. 3. Working All Day:*** This song is great with Derek Shulman on sax. More rocky the than the last 2 songs. 4. Peel The Paint:***** This song is my second favorite with Phil Shulman singing the first half, and Derek doing the second half. 5. Mister Class And Quality?:**** This song is catchy, with Ray playing violin. 6. Three Friends:*** This song musicwise is only great, but the vocals are just beautiful, but there isn't that much vocal....ing in this song. The conclusion..... BUY IT!!!! Best album I ever got, and the list price is only 9.99 Thanks for your time, Williger Degarbo
