About This Item

With a clear, thrilling voice capable of both intimate lyricism and unrestrained passion, Stephanie J. Block (The Boy From Oz, Pirate Queen, Wicked, 9 to 5: The Musical) stands poised at the center of contemporary Broadway. It comes as no surprise, then, that an award-winning array of musical theater songwriters has assembled to join her on her debut solo album, This Place I Know.

Composer Stephen Flaherty (Ragtime) accompanies Stephanie for the recording premiere of his "Something Beautiful," while Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Godspell) assumes the piano on the ballad "Making Good." Marvin Hamlisch not only accompanies but also arranges his own "Smart Women," cut from the Broadway play with music Imaginary Friends, while country music legend Dolly Parton joins forces with Stephanie to reinvent her 1974 classic "I Will Always Love You."

In fact, every track finds the composer joining Stephanie to interpret his or her song. From the Label

August 18, 2009: wow - what an amazing instrument of voice. Stephanie has hit a home run in the music industry with her debut album. I purchased 3 CD's already and am on my way back to purchase a couple more as gifts for some dear friends. Her vocal control, intonation and style are magical. Her voice is soothing, constant, all the while still powerful, it will stir your soul. RUN, don't walk, to buy this CD. I promise you won't be sorry!

August 11, 2009: This is a CD long overdue to the music world. Stephanie is blessed with a brilliantly clear, strong, wide-ranged voice. She carries a phrase like few others with precise diction some singers still ignore. Her soul can be felt in every note and her choice of songs in this debut CD lets you into her world. Her playful, at-ease sense of humor is evident in some selections, also. Stephanie has cut her teeth on many roles on and off Broadway and will hopefully get the recognition she truly deserves with this musical offering. You won't be disappointed, just blessed!
