Editorial Reviews

As the name implies, This Is Smooth Jazz, Vol. 4: Passion is the fourth installment in the label's smooth jazz compilation series. It features 12 tracks by some of England's leading smooth jazz artists, including new material from Shakatak and a single bythe Jazz Steppers titled "Pull Together." The compilation also includes Jill Saward's solo single, "Your Love, My Love," from her solo album Just for You. Nathan Heathman -- known primarily for his work with Rachelle Ferrel, Miki Howard, and Angela Bofill -- performs an intoxicating version of "Hi Dahlin (Hi Darling)" in an eloquent, dynamic style. Overall, this fourth installment does not offer anything exceptional or extraordinary when compared to the previous three releases because many of the tracks included are the result of a stylistic collage of contemporary music from two labels instead of songs that reflect the theme of the CD: passion.
