About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

On this release, Aglukark consolidated her sound, and with the assistance of Chad Irschick (who had contributed to her 1992 release Arctic Rose) she managed to produce an album full of terrific songs with some heavy messages in the lyrics. This album crosses boundaries, so it is difficult to label its sound. Aglukark combines traditional native Canadian music with country and pop and produces a sound all of her own. Her voice is strong and clear throughout, and producer Irschick creates a tight backing for her. Listening to this album, it is no surprise that this CD gained her national exposure and provided her with her first hit singles ("O Siem," " Hina Na Ho," and "This Child"). All brilliant, heartfelt songs with wonderful melodies and crisp production. Native rights, family, and spirituality are the basic themes throughout, but Aglukark manages to do so without sounding preachy. This is a strong album and comes highly recommended for world music lovers. Aaron Badgley, All Music Guide

October 23, 2003: Susan is absolutely one of my favorite artists. I have no idea why she isn't more well known in the states; she deserves it. A Canadian Inuit, she blends her traditional sounds with contemporary rock, dynamic percussion, and soaring lyrics of both English and Inuktitut. She has three other albums: Unsung Heroes and Arctic Rose, plus a Christmas album. I feel like every song she sings is either about me or meant to inspire, sooth, or bring joy to me. Some songs on this album have a Christian angle, others reflect her Inuit religous beliefs. All the songs are meanginful in a very poignant way, yet seem to be naturally so, without being sappy, preachy, or unnatural. This is the way great music sounds! It soars and surprises, explodes and floats. I only discovered Susan a year ago when the director of a dance company I was in brought some music to class--some of which we used in our show! Her music has such variety, meaning, power, and beauty. It can heal and inspire the spirit. Buy this album!
