About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Jethro Tull's first LP-length epic is a masterpiece in the annals of progressive rock, and one of the few works of its kind that still holds up decades later. Mixing hard rock and English folk music with classical influences, set to stream-of-consciousness lyrics so dense with imagery that one might spend weeks pondering their meaning -- assuming one feels the need to do so -- the group created a dazzling tour de force, at once playful, profound, and challenging, without overwhelming the listener. The original LP was the best-sounding, best-engineered record Tull had ever released, easily capturing the shifting dynamics between the soft all-acoustic passages and the electric rock crescendos surrounding them. July 30, 2009: One song, 44 minutes long: Pretentious? Perhaps, but for all its showiness, it is an absolutely brilliant work. The bonus cuts are only ok, listen to them once then forget them, concentrate on the original album.

March 20, 2008: Being from the southern states, back in the early 70's you really did'nt hear much of high level Rock ,or at least I was not exposed to it. When I was introduced to JETHRO TULL it was while I was living in Suffolk England and through this album. It still is the best of the best from Mr. Tull "in my opinion". Of special note is the interview track. a true collectable.
