Editorial Reviews

The Weavers were the granddaddies (and a grandmother) of the modern folk movement. Songs they popularized became anthems for a new generation who would later make folk music the soundtrack to the period of tumult and hope that was the early 1960s. This classic live album is laden with signature tunes, many of which were hits for the group, including “Kisses Sweeter than Wine,” “Goodnight Irene,” “Wimoweh” (the basis for the later pop hit “The Lion Sleeps Tonight”), “Rock Island Line,” and “Hush Little Baby.” Thankfully, one of the great nights in American musical history was caught on tape; the results are as inspiring and enjoyable as ever.
