Editorial Reviews

Rhino's 2001 retrospective The Very Best of Miki Howard is a generous, near-definitive overview of Howard's biggest R&B hits from the '80s. She didn't have many crossover hits, but she did have numerous entries on the R&B charts, all of which are here, including a duet with Gerald Levert, "That's What Love Is." Although this is a little lengthy for listeners with abbreviated attention spans, it does summarize Howard's peak very well, and is as comprehensive a Howard retrospective as could be hoped for. February 09, 2005: I grew up listening to Miki and missed her melodious sound! I came across her again today looking for some of Stephanie Mills music. I thank God for allowing me to come across both of my favorite female vocalist here on B&N. I pray she continues to use the gift God gave her. It is trully a blessing to come across the "best" again. Now, I can keep Miki and Stephanie in my personal collection and keep all my favorites on repeat, to put me asleep!... I hope you enjoy her as much as I do! Forever Always, Godsownsunshine in all your cloudy days..... I've learned from the best!

August 31, 2004: Miki Howard is a "True" Diva who in my opinion has never gotten her just due. People don't understand that she is an "artist". She has the ability to take a song, flip it, twirl it, and make it her own. She was soulful when soulful wasn't in. She is the reason why I know so much about jazz. Her unique infusion of soulful r&b and jazz with a sprinkle or sometimes a real hard shake of the blues got my attention a long time ago. I think that if she had the right marketing behind her she would still be a very strong name and her next CD would be greatly anticipated by many genres and age-ranks.
