From 1979 to 1993, Mills' glowing voice was a frequent resident on R&B airwaves. She delivered riveting funk-disco romps and soulful ballads with equal ease and conviction. Almost all of the highlights are found here, as well as several lesser-known earlier works. The tracks are arranged in chronological order, beginning with two songs from her obscure 1975 debut album, Movin' in the Right Direction, and ending with two Top Ten numbers from 1989's gold Home. In between is a diverse selection, ranging from the gospel-rooted "I Took My Strength from You" to the pop crossover hits "Never Knew Love Like this Before" and "What Cha Gonna Do with My Lovin'" to the Prince cover "How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore?" Notably missing are the 1981 duet with Teddy Pendergrass, "Two Hearts," and the 1982 hit "Last Night." But considering this 15-track compilation includes work from all five labels for which Mills recorded secular material, it pretty much lives up to its name. October 11, 2002: This is IT!! The compilation most recommended to most music lovers wanting a sample of Stephanie. I have all of Stephanie's Albums from 1975 to 1994 (obscure and otherwise). This set is a favorite to me because it includes pre-20th Century Fox recordings and it covers HITS as well. So, it offers the best anthology of music from all her labels. Now that Universal owns the material for ALL of her work, perhaps, Catalog Development will get a bright idea..REISSUE the three Gold-selling 20th Century-Fox albums. For TRUE Stephanie fans, I'll share a secret: if you buy the "funk essentials" compilation, which cover the 70's early 80's work, you're really buying "Whatcha Gonna Do With My Lovin'" because there's only one track--"Don't Stop Dancin" that's not included from that album. The other 7 are there. Back this set: Once again, get if you like Stephanie; otherwise, The "Funk Essentials" set and the MCA greatest hits set, will be a better purchase. If you buy most of these compilations by Stephanie, you'll end up with a lot of album tracks from the 20th Century albums and that's also a good thing!
