As an American who recently spent five months in Buenos Aires, I confess to a love affair with the city, its people and their music, especially Tango. This sound track, comprised mostly of "classic" tango is a major disappointment, perhaps because the old music just ain't that good. Simply because specimans of a genre of music which are old doesn't necessarily make it good. The Gardel track is okay but certainly not great and it's only one of two vocal cuts on the album. The other is by an ersatz "artist," Sally Potter, a Brit who made this laughably bad vanity film from which this mediocre CD was made. Pop genre music, no matter where it's from, is mostly a matter of taste, and I prefer contemporary, gutsy, ballsy kind of tango with a vocal, preferably by the wonderful Adriana Varela.

I loved this cd. If you have seen the movie to this wonderful soundtrack, everything shall fall in place. If you haven't you'll still enjoy this cd. The music is so beautiful and insightful. You'll be dancing and singing before you know it. My personal favorite is La Yumba (13). It shows the struggle between men and women. You can interpret the songs. Not all the songs are just about the Tango but just relaxation. Anyway, check out the free listening samples, and you'll see what I mean.
