Given the band's sizable output and the improvisational leeway of its music, it would seem like Vitamin could run up an entire box set of string quartet tributes to Phish that carried the tunes to far-flung corners of the stringed instrument universe. As it is, The String Quartet Tribute to Phish picks a cross section of ten tunes from the jam band's catalog for this enjoyable romp. The pretty sway of "Farmhouse" is handled perfectly by the violins, "Billy Breathes" is as plaintive as ever, "Squirming Coil" and "Run Like an Antelope" come from Lawn Boy, and "Cavern" is a nice kickoff, as it utilizes well the layers of violin, viola, and cello that run throughout the album.
