November 04, 2005: Howard shore's score fits the film and subject matter very well. This CD not only has nearly every cue from the film itself, but extended cues as well. The Asylum and Lambs Screaming tracks have extra music. Now about the score. The music is very beautiful, lulling, and almost something to nod off to. It is built on the emotional intensity of the story itself. There are not many scares here, if any. The music is centered around the character of Clarice Starling. It conveys sadness and mostly tension. The instruments used are almost all strings. Violins, violas, harps, and cellos with trumpets, trombones, tubas and horns supplying a lot of brass. There is also good use of woodwinds such as flutes. The flow is constant and steady with humming strings and booming brass. Although performed by a full orchestra, the music is layered and has dense sound. Main Titles is a very good track to sum up the score, as well as the end titles in Finale. The heat tugging intensity of this score wiil no dought touch the listener. Tears may flow freely as the listener experiences the story of an FBI trainee who is haunted by her childhood, discrimminated agianst on the job, and whose spirit is built up and torn down agian and agian by the imprisoned genius she is assigned to interview. Yes, The Silence Of The Lambs is a classic piece of work that focuses not on events, but on emotions.
