Composer David Julyan's murky score for director Christopher Nolan's equally atmospheric dueling magicians tale The Prestige is a hypnotic assault of tension and little release. The Memento and Insomnia composer builds what initially sounds like an orchestra tuning into a brooding, minimalist wave of a score that channels the Victorian dread of the film. Elliptical swelling strings, ghostly piano, and dissonant walls of brass ebb and flow throughout, making The Prestige a vaguely unsettling experience without the benefit of celluloid.
