Supposedly recorded live at Brighton Beach on Halloween, The Origin of the Feces is actually a poorly played (on purpose) studio record, featuring overdubbed crowd noises that make it sound as though neither the band nor the audience appreciated each other. Most of this material appeared on their first album as sections of longer songs. One exception is a rewrite of "Hey Joe" entitled "Hey Pete," which makes the narrator into an ax murderer. October 05, 2003: When i first saw this album, i didn't buy it because of its original cover art. then when they released it with the better album cover, i checked it out. At first it didn't really appeal to me but after a few times of listening to it, i really got into it. Some say it's not really recorded at Brighton Beach on Halloween, but they did a great job of making it sound live, with the bomb threat during "Gravity" and thes crowds hatred toward them all the way through, including the time Pete is nearly hit with a beer bottle during "Kill you Tonight". The best song on the album is their cover of "Hey Joe" by Jimi Hendrix entitled "Hey Pete". But what really appealed to me is the way Pete uses distortion on his bass. Being a bass player, it's very hard to duplicate it without spending a load of money. If you are a true Type O fan, this is a must have for your collection.
