About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Having the devil on your side never hurts when you're plying your trade in the realm of heavy metal, and on this early-'80s blast, these British stalwarts make it clear Beelzebub is most definitely a bud. The band's thick, unrepentantly slogging sound reached its pinnacle on this, the definitive Maiden disc, a record that basically defined metal's harder edges for much of the decade. From the punishing drums that propel "The Prisoner" to the massed guitars that tear through "Children of the Damned" to Bruce Dickinson's trademark siren-styled vocals, Number of the Beast practically leaps from the speakers to shake you by the collar -- and prompt you to bang that head a bit faster. Sometimes bigger really is better. David Sprague, Barnes & Noble

January 11, 2005: I stole this album from my brother's record collection when I was 12 and now 20 years later, this is still my favourite album off all time. There can be no improvements made. This album is Iron Maiden.
