About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

This concert set, initially released in 1982, somehow slipped between the cracks, escaping CD release for more than two decades -- a situation that's remedied in fine fashion by this reissue, which nearly doubles the original's content with the addition of 16 new tracks. The supplements include live material that dates back as far as the Heads' days as up-and-comers on the CBGB scene, such as a skeletal early rendition of "The Girls Want to Be with the Girls" and an embryonic version of "Drugs" (which appears under the title "Electricity"). Some of the newly appended material merely rehashes what was there in the first place -- such as a superfluous second version of "Psycho Killer" -- but most of the bonuses, 13 of which have never been released in any form, are meaty nuggets indeed. A sparse reading of "The Book I Read," for instance, capitalizes on David Byrne's quirky vocal intensity, while an agitated "Born Under Punches" slips and slides down the complex eddies the band eventually became adept at traversing. Although a reunion looks as unlikely now as when the band first split all those years ago, The Name of This Band goes a long way toward satisfying those live Heads cravings.
