Editorial Reviews

Spanning club-friendly dance-pop, confessional singer/songwriters and classic pop, the soundtrack to The L Word: The Second Season showcases the series' eclectic taste in music. The album gets off to a great start with Dusty Springfield's subtly sexy "Just a Little Lovin'," the Organ's mysterious and urgent "Brother" and Ladytron's glamorously hungover "Playgirl." For the most part, the rest of the soundtrack manages to keep this momentum going while keeping the sound diverse: Edgier tracks such as Martina Topley-Bird's "Ilya" -- a dark, sleek song that picks up where her collaborations with Tricky left off -- and the dance-punk of Le Tigre's "On the Verge" mix surprisingly well with more straightforward material such as Heart's "No Other Love" and Shawn Colvin's "Sunny Came Home." Other standouts include Grandadbob's "Mmmnn," Shirley Bassey and AwayTeam's "Where Do I Begin" and Betty's cheeky theme to The L-Word, which sounds like a lesbian-themed version of "My Favorite Things" as performed by 4 Non Blondes. A hipper and more contemporary collection than the first season's soundtrack, The L-Word- Season 2 works well both in and out of the show's context. Heather Phares, All Music Guide

March 10, 2006: The Season 2 Soundtrack is Twice what season 1 was, the music moves powerfully with the story being told and leaves a strong impression in the minds of people who relate down the the bare bones of what's being said..

March 13, 2005: This is a great summary of music on what it is like to face the outside world. And that being said when power from just one note sends understanding,,who says you are alone?
