Editorial Reviews

Connie Francis' Italian-language recordings from the late '50s and '60s are among her most acclaimed records, both by critics and her fans. The two-volume The Italian Collection is the first comprehensive American CD compilation of these records, featuring selections from her five Italian albums -- Sings Italian Favorites, More Italian Favorites, Sings Modern Italian Hits, Mala Femmena & Connie's Big Hits from Italy, and Love, Italian Style -- as well as Italian singles and live tracks. Francis herself compiled the discs, and the results are wonderful. Any serious fan who hasn't heard this music needs to acquire this collection, and fans familiar with this material should be pleased with the remastered sound, extensive liner notes, and previously unpublished photos. Among the highlights on Vol. 1 are "Tango Della Gelosia," "Terra Straniera," "Tango Delle Rose," "Ciao, Ciao Bambino," "Arrivederci Roma," "Canta Ragazzina," "La Paloma," and "Addio, Mi' Amore." December 22, 2007: She is one of the few remaining icons still going strong ranking beside Sinatra, Crosby, Ella, Sarah, and others. Connie Francis has the distinction of being the largest selling female vocalist, the first international female singing superstar (she sings in 9 languages), and the first woman to break the all male RnR scene on her own terms. This collection of her 5 US released Italian LPS is one of two volumes. Both are gems personally hand picked by Connie. Her most mature and best work (LOVE ITALIAN STYLE) has many tracks and shows her at her vocal peak. Her version of IL CIELO UNA STANZA (Room Full of Stars) is classic understatement and her live version of YOU DON'T HAVE TO SAY YOU LOVE ME recorded in an open arena will give the listener chills. Her voice is truly solid gold. She can make any song hers. And thanks to Connie Francis she paved the way for all other rock/pop singers to follow. A wonderful homage to a truly one of a kind singer. Listen and love it.
