About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

This set could be twice as long and still not include all of Williams's "greatest" scores. The mere mention of some of the 26-plus films included here -- "Star Wars," "E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial," "Superman," "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom," "Jaws," "The Empire Strikes Back," "Raiders of the Lost Ark," and "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" (just for starters!) -- is enough to evoke the most vivid sounds and images for moviegoers. Williams's limitless range encompasses the excitement of "Hook," the exquisite passage from "Schindler's List" (with Itzhak Perlman on violin), and the somber grandeur of "Saving Private Ryan." Small wonder that directors Steven Spielberg, Oliver Stone, and George Lucas have made him their composer of choice. If there's a defining moment here, it's the "Flying Theme" from "E.T." Under Williams's gifted baton, the full orchestra soars with sound that seems to capture the essence of wonder and adventure. Andrew Velez, Barnes & Noble

November 23, 2001: The only thing wrong with these CDs is that they have a time limit. After hearing these tracks on the big screen I thought that nothing could be better, I was wrong! The entire collection stands on its own, the music included would still be great even if it was never attached to a movie. The only trouble with the collection is that some tracks are relatively short but that is a small matter that you will soon forget after the hours of listening bliss it provides.
