In the mid-'50s, the Four Freshmen embellished a couple of their albums with brass quintets to provide a mildly jazzy touch. This CD reissue combines both of those records (Four Freshmen and 5 Trombones, 1956; 4 Freshmen and 5 Trumpets, 1957) onto one CD. It offers characteristic pop harmony numbers that differ little from their typical '50s efforts, except for the addition of those extra instruments. Richie Unterberger, All Music Guide
