Editorial Reviews

The Firehouse Five Plus Two's humor sometimes came dangerously close to corn although their musicianship was usually quite strong, with soprano saxophonist George Probert being a first-class soloist. Comprised mostly of members of the creative staff of Walt Disney, these part-time musicians always seemed to enjoy themselves and had a wide audience during the 1950s. This CD reissue is straightforward Dixieland, featuring a crisp lead by cornetist Danny Alguire and even two siren breaks from trombonist/leader Ward Kimball. Fun music. Scott Yanow, All Music Guide
