About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

A fine songwriter and tasteful guitarist who possesses a strong, gritty voice, Bobby Womack has been turning out his brand of urban gospel-soul for more than 40 years, beginning with the single "Lookin' for a Love" in 1962. This stripped-down set has most of his truly essential sides, from "Lookin' for a Love" and its follow-up, "It's All Over Now" (later a hit for the Rolling Stones), to imaginative covers ("Fly Me to the Moon," "California Dreamin'"), his big early-'70s singles ("That's the Way I Feel About 'Cha," "Woman's Gotta Have It"), and his blaxploitation hit, "Across 110th Street," the title song from the film. For listeners just looking for the key tracks in Womack's career, this set will fill the bill, but there is a whole lot more to the story. Steve Leggett, All Music Guide
