Editorial Reviews

1938 saw the creation of one of Rodgers and Hart's most successful musicals, The Boys from Syracuse. The basic plot was taken from Shakespeare's A Comedy of Errors, a tale of mistaken identity and misplaced twin brothers. Lorenz Hart's younger brother, a comedian named Teddy, was featured in a prominent role as one of the servants (both named Dromio). Highlights in the score include "Falling in Love with Love," "What Can You Do with a Man?" and "Sing for Your Supper." Sarah Erlewine, All Music Guide

July 09, 2001: While there are other orchestrations and versions of this Rogers and Hart masterpiece, this one is particularly intelligent in its faithfulness to the creators' intentions. Not an easy piece to perform, it has a whole range of subtleties that are brought out here to great effect.
