About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Harry Chapin celebrated his 2000th performance in January 1981 by performing three nights at the Bottom Line, performing a song cycle that began with "Taxi" and ended with "Sequel." Over the course of two discs, The Bottom Line Encore Collection reconstructs that original set list, which features such staples as "Story of a Life," "Old Folkie," "Remember When the Music" and "Cat's in the Cradle." This series of concerts would turn out to be some of Chapin's last performances -- he died six months afterward, in July -- which makes the collection a valuable addition to the libraries of devoted collectors. September 13, 2004: Once again, Harry shines through in another live album. Although his voice is rugged, due to his hectic touring schedule, this suits him a ironically positive way. Although rugged, he seems to have more control over his singing voice than in earlier live albums. He sings with a passion I dare say even wasn't on his well-known GREATEST STORIES LIVE album. The best songs on this album are "Taxi," "Story of a Life," "Mr. Tanner," "Remember When the Music," and "Sequel." Although the band is not necessarily in best form, seeming to be going through the motions, Harry nonetheless delivers with his understated and underrated acoustic guitar work. Combine that with a voice that is simply, in my opinion, Harry's best singing voice, and you've got one heck of an album.
