About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

The series of songbook recordings that Ella Fitzgerald made throughout the 1950s were her ticket to vocal immortality. Each of these tributes to America's greatest songwriters -- George Gershwin, Howard Arlen, Irving Berlin, Cole Porter, Johnny Mercer, Rodgers and Hart, and Jerome Kern -- has its own mighty rewards. And how could they not? Fitzgerald was in peak voice, and her material is some of the most exquisite and durable popular songs ever written. For many vocal aficionados, Ella's versions of these songs are difficult to match, let alone top. This fine collection skims some of the best from the individual albums. Honestly, how can you miss with songs like "Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered," "They Can't Take That Away from Me," "Cotton Tail," "Miss Otis Regrets," "Midnight Sun," and "I've Got My Love to Keep Me Warm"? Steve Futterman, Barnes & Noble

April 17, 2001: This album is awesome! I've had it for quite a while and still listen to it. Most albums you wear out after the first 2 weeks or so and have to take a break for a while. Not this one. I've been going on it for a year now and I'm still not in need of a break! Isn't Ella great?!
