There is absolutely no other band around that's anything like the Squirrel Nut Zippers. It's hard to describe their music, but think 1930s Big Band, throw in a touch of New Orleans jazz, with a dash of soulful blues and a touch of swing. Lead female vocalist Katherine mesmerizes with her warm, throaty voice, reminicent of Billie Holiday. "Hot" is hands-down their greatest song ever, but "Put a Lid on it" is a close second. This "best of" album is satisfying, but doesn't come close to including all their greatest songs, and is therefore more of a tease. It will certainly leave you thirsty for more of this incredible band. The Zippers masquerade as a nostalgic, swing-era band, a band from a more innocent time. Only DARKER.

Upon insertion into my stereo, this album carried me back to the time I first heard Squirrel Nut Zippers. A truly magical experience! Katherine's silky vocals sooth their way back into your speakers as Jimbo and Tom's raucous performances spark the need to jive along once again. The bonus track "Dancing on the Moon" is a tasty treat for fans who long for more from the days of "HOT" and "Perennial Favorites". Katherine and the boys score again with "Under the Sea" and lay down a Squirrel Nut Zipper feel on this Disney tune. These cats weren't swing, they were HOT and this album reminds you their sound and style still are. This is a truly timeless collection of great music for any one to enjoy! Thanks!
