Editorial Reviews

Released in 1999, this compilation covers Ray Parker, Jr.'s career through 1985's Sex and the Single Man, including the four albums he recorded with Raydio between the late '70s and early '80s. And, of course, there's "Ghostbusters" -- where Parker decided to re-write somebody else's song (Huey Lewis & the News' "I Want a New Drug," or M's "Pop Muzik") instead of one of his own, attained his highest level of mainstream success, and was ultimately taken to court. Anyway, this disc is one of the more in-depth comps, since it contains 18 tracks, and it does include all of the high-charting, popular singles. Regardless of its size, it shortchanges the Raydio records just as much as the briefer sets, neglecting highlights like "More Than One Way to Love a Woman," "Betcha Can't Love Me Just Once," "That Old Song" and "Until the Morning Comes."
