About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Always and Forever is a masterful look at one of the funkiest disco bands ever to grace a DJ's table. This compilation, set up like most, is packed with hits in chronological order, showcasing not only a great dance set, but also the important chronicle of an underrated band. With the band's two smash singles "Boogie Nights" and "The Groove Line" kicking things off, this disc essentially traces Heatwave's history though their singles releases with a smattering of extra tunes thrown in for good measure. As a whole, the set is also a record of the subtle changes in composition and performance that took the band from disco sensibilities to a richer and far more textured soft funk, most notably on "Gangsters of the Groove." Of course, there is some pure funk here too, and "Lettin' It Loose" is a reminder that this band did have a few other tricks up their sleeves. And, of course, since Heatwave are best remembered as a disco band, the fan won't be disappointed either. Special disco versions of "The Groove Line" and "Eyeballin" replace regular album cuts. Rounding out the mix are "Central Heating" and "Happiness Togetherness," while the sweet soul ballad "Look After Love" closes the album as certainly as "Boogie Nights" opens it. Disco, funk, soul --Heatwave incorporate all genres with ease. And no matter how you categorize this band, there is a little groove for everyone. And while it's true that the band will never be lauded with the best of the best, they still recorded some absolutely delicious nuggets. ~ Amy Hanson, All Music Guide All Music Guide

August 10, 2003: Ditto to the above review. A must buy if you like soul, funk, and slow jams. Always and Forever was used in my wedding!

February 13, 2003: I am shocked that Amy Hanson, All Music Guide reviewer could write a review of this albumn and not even mention the song that has long been considered the "Lovers Anthemn", "Always and Forever". This song has remained popular for over 20 years and is constantly being used in television shows and commercials today. The albumn is woth buying just to get that song. But there are many other wonderful songs on this albumn that bring back great memories for me. I guess Amy Hanson was born after 1980.
