About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

All four songs from Matt Hires' first EP, Live from the Hotel Café, make additional appearances on his full-length debut, which expands the songwriter's acoustic sound into something slick and polished. As before, the quaver in Hires' voice is nearly omnipresent, although the sheer energy of "Listen to Me Now" effectively masks that vocal tic. Although ballads make frequent appearances, Take Us to the Start sounds best at its most brisk, when Hires trades the coffeehouse aspirations of his slower songs for something more akin to driving, mainstream pop/rock. November 21, 2009: Matt Hires is a promising young artist who has chosen some really wonderful songs for his album. He gets better with every listen. He's also pretty good live - even barefoot!

another month of this crapby war_time_novelty

September 22, 2009: every month there's another crappy indiepuppet album chosen for the in store play. pete yorn, james morrison, crosby loggins are all ISP's B&N has had; and along with other forgotton names, they've all sounded EXACTLY THE SAME with almost no variation, sometimes the keys are even the same from month to month...it might be music but it's certainly not original or art. it's discomforting to know that so many people refuse to recognize such an obvious conspiracy. "HERE'S THE EASIEST STUFF TO MASS PRODUCE, IT WON'T OFFEND ANYBODY BECAUSE IT'S COMPLETELY DEVOID OF INTELLECTUAL QUALITY AND IT'S CATCHY AND REPETITIVE...LIKE DISCO." so there!

I Also Recommend: Three Flights from Alto Nido, Hold On, Songs for You, Truths for Me, Remain, August and Everything After.
