Editorial Reviews

The Mt. Hood Jazz Band is a typical although well-traveled college big band. The ensembles are lively, the band has plenty of spirit, and the arrangements (by the likes of John Fedchock, Sammy Nestico, Gordon Goodwin, Frank Mantooth, and Tom Kubis) are extroverted and swinging. Few of the soloists are that impressive since these are youngsters, although guitarist Chazz Hamilton and pianist Andrew Washburn show potential. Fans of college big bands will find this set of interest and perhaps some of these young musicians will eventually become significant professionals. At least they sound as if they are having fun.
