About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Such Great Heights is a single by Sub Pop electro-poppers Postal Service with a great idea behind it. Listeners get the best song from the full-length record, "Such Great Heights"; a strong non-album track, "There's Never Enough Time"; and two bands playing covers of Postal Service songs. The Shins sparkle on their version of "We Will Become Silhouettes" and Iron and Wine plays a positively stunning rendition of "Such Great Heights." Both bands strip away Postal Service's new wave electronics and play the songs straight, the Shins with their typical ramshackle verve and Iron and Wine with Sam Beam's haunting vocals and British folk-style guitars. A worthy purchase for fans of the three bands and for all indie kids. Tim Sendra, All Music Guide

January 04, 2005: Heard "Nothing Better" one day and I was in love on the spot. This ep (aside from the pretty cd sleeve art) is well worth the money. First, the standard (now famous?) "Such Great Heights", a wonderful, lovely song. Track #2 is, as far as I know, previously unreleased and is just as good as anything off the main album (also features the wonderful vocals of Jenny Lewis of Rilo Kiley). Track #3 is a Postal Service cover by The Shins, and they do a wonderful job of keeping the song light and beautiful while at the same time adding their own Shin flavor. Finally, while I don't like most Iron and Wine songs, and I do think this cover makes the song seem sad when it's not supposed to be, track #4 is still not a throwaway and is quite good in it's own way. Frankly, while reviewing my comments here, I had to go and get the EP and play it as I finish typing this. Had I paid twice or even three times as much for this EP I still would have been satisfied.
