About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

A very nice 15-track budget set drawn exclusively from performances with Norman Granz' Jazz at the Philharmonic concerts, this captures Lady Day at a pivotal point in her career. The backing -- from luminaries like Lester Young, Illinois Jacquet, Coleman Hawkins, Buck Clayton, Howard McGhee, Willie Smith, and Trummy Young, among others -- is exemplary, providing a perfect backdrop for her to do what she did so very well. Transfers are very clean, the liner notes from William Hogeland are brief but concise, and there's no level at which this package does not succeed. A keeper. Cub Koda, All Music Guide
