Like Love You Live before it, Still Life showcases the Stones as pure entertainers, although the band adds enough rhythmic grit to keep the record from sinking into pure showbiz formula. Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide

November 19, 2002: "Still Life" was recorded during a bad period in the band's career. "Tattoo You" was a very big seller commercially, and stayed at number one on the Billboard album charts for 9 weeks straight, longer than any other Stones album. But the band had lots of drug problems. Plus, to make matters worse, there was tension that was brewing between Mick and Keith. But still the band put together a great live album. "Still Life" features great versions of many Stones classics. The band is really strong & tough on rocking versions of "Satisfaction", "Under My Thumb", "Shattered", "Start Me Up", and "Let's Spend The Night Together". And if you want to know more they do a really good version of "Let Me Go", and a great version of "Time Is On My Side". But the highlight is the fervored performance of "Just My Imagina- tion". The album is also of some significance because it was the last live album to include the band's pianist and rodie, Ian Stewart. He died two years after "Still Life" was put out in stores. All in all, "Still Life" is a good album.

Mick says:''ARE YOU READY TO ROCK (your city here)??!!by Anonymous

October 23, 2001: Instead of announcers yelling ''Ladies & Gentlemen, the greatest Roll N' Roll Band in the World!'' this set starts out with an apologetic ''Thank you very much for waiting New Jersey.'' This is fitting start for an album for rushed songs and average to awful playing. ''Shattered'' is rushed through in a manner it doesn't deserve and Keith Richards does what he does worst on most of these tracks which is play as many notes as possible to fill in the spaces when Mick isn't howling. And check this: at the end of the first track 'Under My Thumb' Mick yells ''Hey Welcome Virginia.'' (Wait a sec, weren't we just in NJ?) ''Welcome Hampton and hope you're having good time sitting there drinkin a few beers, smoking a few joints, & you're all right.'' That's all he can think of to say. Wow. This set should have been great which was a mix of (at the time) new ''Start Me Up'' & ''Let Me Go'', old ''Under My Thumb'', ''Let's Spend the Night Together'' & covers ''20 Flight Rock'', ''Just my Imagination''. But Mick is too busy yelling like a heavy metal singer ''Are you ready to rock (your city here)''. Lame. And speaking of lame check out the version of ''Time is on my Side'' on this. They played this song at every stop on the tour. This was the best version they could come up with? Still it is the Stones but I find it interesting that all of their other live sets have energetic names: ''Get your Ya-Ya's out!!'', ''Got Live if Ya want it'', ''Love You Live'' and ''Flashpoint'' where this one sounds as energetic as a plastic fruit centerpiece. They came back after this with ''Dirty Work'' and the great set ''Steel Wheels'' but this one should have remained out-of-print as it was for a while.
