About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

A three-song EP, Staring to the Sun is really only suited for listeners wanting something before Scarling's next release. And even that may be pushing it, because Staring to the Sun actually only includes two tracks of unreleased material ("City Noise," with its uncanny resemblance to Interpol's "Evil," was on the band's 2005 full-length So Long, Scarecrow). The title cut is good, with singer Jessicka's sweet voice-over loud and Pixies-like guitars, which is fitting, as Scarling also includes a cover of the Boston band's "Wave of Mutilation." It works well, and if nothing else, shows how indebted Scarling are to Black Francis and Co. It's not a bad release, but its brevity is certainly a bit of a detraction, which means Staring to the Sun is best-left for serious fans only. Marisa Brown, All Music Guide
