About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

When The Phantom Menace was originally released in 1999, fans of Star Wars and scoring king John Williams were given a single disc soundtrack containing less than half the music in the movie. A huge outcry followed because the album lacked so many of the film's key musical elements, including the music to the major battle scenes. Finally, Sony Classical has made things right with the release of The Phantom Menace (Ultimate Edition), a two-disc set containing every note of Williams's magnificent score, from the opening "Fox Fanfare" to the last end credit, presented in the film's original running order. The London Symphony has never sounded finer, playing the quiet parts with delicacy and finesse while attacking the upbeat pieces with vigor and style. On some tracks -- such as "Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan and Darth Maul Continue Battle" -- a choir heightens the overall experience, adding a fresh element not present in most of Williams' other works. The scope and depth of the work, from the intensity of the music during action scenes to the gentle passages of elegance and beauty, showcase Williams's brilliance as a composer and conductor. This edition of The Phantom Menace is further enhanced with a 60-page booklet containing a sequential series of scene photos from the movie. The set ends with a bonus track, a dialogue version of "Duel of the Fates." Although the film took some knocks, its score stands alone as a modern orchestral masterpiece that shouldn't be missed. September 01, 2002: This CD is by far the most elaborate of its time. The case itself is totally original, with a holographic image of Darth Maul. Contained within is a booklet loaded with coloured photos. A photo, basically, for each track! The CD art is wonderful, featuring images of Queen Amidala, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Qui-Gon Jinn. As for the music. . . well what more can be said. It's truly mesmerizing. Aside from the price, it's a flawless item. DujHoD, one must not complain when such a masterpiece has arisen. Highly recommended! Well done again, Sir Williams.
