About Plácido Domingo

About Renée Fleming

Editorial Reviews

Recorded live in 1998, this program of amorous duets finds reigning young soprano Renée Fleming in radiant voice. Tenor Plácido Domingo, whose career spans almost four decades, sounds so fresh one wonders whether he's discovered some magical fountain of youth. Backed by the virile virtuosity of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, diva and divo lavishly ravish the ear in scenes from opera (Verdi's "Otello," Gounod's "Faust"), operetta (Lehár's "The Merry Widow"), and Broadway (Bernstein's "West Side Story"). But wait, there's more! With maestro Daniel Barenboim tickling the ivories, Domingo sings colorful Spanish and Argentinian songs, while Fleming swings sinuously in tunes by Duke Ellington. "Star Crossed Lovers" is a hodgepodge of styles, but everything's done with feeling and flair, proving yet again that variety is the spice of life. Andrew Farach-Colton, Barnes & Noble

July 09, 2004: This is a landmark recording...truly special. With two such influential singers together--and live!! Being a huge Renee Fleming fan, I am quite partial to her jazz selections..."In a Sentimental Mood" is quite possibly one of the most amazing pieces I've ever heard her sing...That song alone was worth what I paid for it.
