About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Based on its title alone, it would seem that Southern Voice picks up on the harder country edges of Let It Go, but that's not the case: this is Tim McGraw's rockiest album yet, opening with a slow, spacy crawl called "Still" that would not be out of place on a record by a U2 knockoff and often revisiting that territory, taking the occasional detour to Nickelback territory on the Chad Kroeger co-written "It's a Business Doing Pleasure with You." On the rest of the record, McGraw mines a sentimental, meditative vein, musing on major changes in his life and wondering what will happen after he's gone. Such big themes fit both the big, atmospheric rock sounds and the reflective acoustic ballads well, creating an inward vibe that is occasionally punctuated by a rocker, like the laundry list of great Southern names on the title track or the mess of clichés on "It's Only Jesus," changes of pace meant to goose along the record but which wind up as speed bumps on a mellow trip. October 20, 2009: I have missed Tim McGraw on the radio. It just seems like radio let go of both him and his wife, Faith Hill, in favor of replaying songs by Kenny Chesney, Brad Paisley, Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood over and over and over and over again. What a shame, McGraw is still cranking out some good tunes. I bought this album first things this morning and have already listened to it twice. It's a pretty good album. I thought Let It Go was better, but this album has some great tunes. It's a Business Doing Pleasure With You should have received more radioplay...it's a toe tapping good song, and better than hearing Chesney sing about the beach again. Southern Voice is a salute to some great names in country music. I didn't Know it at the Time is a great mellow song, and If I Died Today is a song everyone can relate to. I don't think there is anyone who hasn't thought about "What will happen when I die?"

McGraw's voice is the best it's been. He's always had a thin voice with limited range, but he doesn't pretend like his voice is more than it is, which my ears are thankful for.

No duets with Faith on this one, and I think that's a good thing. I would love to see them do a duet album, but it's nice to have this album feature Tim and Tim alone.

I Also Recommend: Let It Go.

October 02, 2009: This is a great CD. A CD that should be listened to from top to the bottom. The story is one of love, hurt, redemption, reality, and what life could be like. Just an incredible fun but yet mature listen. Tim's voice is better than it has ever been and the production is so refreshing, compared to most of the shrill or produced Country Cd's that are on the radio today.

Thank You Tim, very nice.
