I'm dreaming of a prog Christmas, and the December People must have heard me. This release is a wonderful holiday gift for progressive rock fans everywhere. In reality, the December People are not a group, but the name that Robert Berry has chosen to work under for this project. Imagine an album of Christmas favorites performed in progressive rock style -- it's all here, the extended and powerful arrangements and virtuosity that you expect from the genre loaded with a healthy dose of holiday cheer. Berry has enlisted the aid of some stellar vocalists for his version of caroling. Among the luminary singers on the album are Steve Walsh (Kansas), John Wetton (UK, King Crimson), Trent Gardner (Magellan), and others. So taken was Walsh with the project that Kansas even saw fit to add a track of its own. There are no weak pieces here; all of them encompass all that progressive rock represents while staying true to the Christmas theme. Let's hope this is one Christmas tradition that will keep coming around every year for a long time. Gary Hill, All Music Guide

October 15, 2001: This is a fun album!! The songs are mainly traditional Christmas carols, arranged as is classic rock groups had performed them. You get folks like Steve Walsh and John Wetton performing ''Silent Night'' (as if done by `Dark Side Of The Moon? era Pink Floyd); ''The First Noel'' (as if done by King Crimson - swirling mellotrons from 'In The Court . . .' crashing into the ominous concrete of `Red?); ?Twas The Night Before Christmas? (as though done by Led Zeppelin - `Stairway to Kasmir?); ?What Child Is This? as done by `Lamb Lies Down . . .? era Genesis). Steve Walsh sounds incredible here, both on the Kansas original ? ?The Light?; and on ?We Three Kings Of Orient Are? (done in the style of Sting) and ?Angels We Have Heard On High? (as by Peter Gabriel). Never imitating Sting or Gabriel, but purely Steve Walsh interpreting the lyrics with passion of his own. I recommend this to everyone, especially those interested in a new spin on old Christmas favorites.
