MCA Special Products' Soul Master is a budget-priced compilation of highlights from Gene Chandler's late-'60s and early-'70s recordings. Although Chandler is more celebrated for his Vee-Jay recordings, none of which are available here, these smooth soul cuts -- such as "Nothing Can Stop Me," "From the Teacher to the Preacher," and "Groovy Situation" -- are quite enticing and are given a good, affordable showcase here, even if the compilation is far from comprehensive.
