About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Often overlooked because of the enormous shadows cast by the likes of Otis Redding and James Brown, Sam & Dave were just as deserving as a '60s-era soul force. Racking up some of the genre's best-known and beloved songs of all time, they received a career boost years after their split, when the Blues Brothers (aka Dan Aykroyd and the late/great John Belushi) based their sound mainly on this Stax Records duo, and scored a monster hit with a cover of "Soul Man," which leads off the budget-priced ten-track collection Soul Man & Other Favorites. While this is certainly not the most extensive Sam & Dave collection out there, if you're searching for an affordable collection of just strictly the hits, then this set fits the bill, featuring such classics as "I Thank You," "Hold On! I'm Comin'," and "Soothe Me" (the latter two of which appeared in the Blues Brothers' classic 1980 comedy). For some of the finest soul music ever recorded, give Soul Man & Other Favorites a listen.
