September 03, 2009: This album by great smooth-jazz artist Chris Standring, is a very "smooth" album indeed. Every song is as soothing and cool as the next. Listening to the entire compact disc lends itself to a world beyond just music for music's sake, this is a world in which all things are possible if even for a brief moment in time. This album is for the escapist, the person that needs soothing soul comfort, and to that end, it achieves what it set out to do. I purchased this disc a year ago because I heard a song from it on the radio. It arrived just in time for my long-anticipated vacation to the Pacific Northwest. I could not stop listening to it, driving my family crazy, it made the splendor of seeing trees 150 feet tall, forests of evergreen, and the surreal effect of a Pacific storm front moving along the coast, enshrouding our vehicle with fog and mist, all the more special.
Natural beauty notwithstanding, this disc will also engender an emotion known amongst all fans of smooth-jazz as the "just-chillin' effect," essentially, this effect happens when one is driving a car, sun-roof opened, top-down, wind rushing through, being a warm-sunny day, mid-afternoon, no traffic, two-lane road, a general feeling of being thankful just to be alive, and then listening to an awesome smooth-jazz song, blasting the radio to the maximum volume, bass at threshold, what then follows is what may be described as a "warm-fuzzy" feeling, wherein a person enjoys the nirvana of "just-chillin' This disc is a must have for any fan of smooth-jazz, and it will serve the listener well whenever the need arises in our hectic society for escape, relief, comfort, and good feelings associated with it.
